WHAT IS NATUROPATHY?
Naturopathy is a natural medicine system that incorporates both the traditional medicines of many cultures and current evidence-based scientific research. Naturopathy is based on the principle of the body’s own natural potential to heal itself!!
The fundamental goal of naturopathy is the achievement and maintenance of optimal health and wellbeing. Naturopathy treats the whole person in body, mind and spirit. The naturopath and their client work together in order to identify and treat the causes of various health conditions, with a focus on preventative medicine and education about health promoting practices.
Naturopathy utilizes many different natural health modalities in order to achieve optimal wellness including:
- Herbal medicines
- Nutritional/dietary analysis and modification
- Lifestyle modifications such as exercise and relaxation techniques
- Iridology (iris analysis)
- Tactile therapies such as therapeutic massage
- Energetic medicines such as flower essences and homoeopathy.
Naturopathy is non-invasive and is guided by the principle of ‘first do no harm’. An accredited naturopath follows their association’s professional code of ethics and will refer to and collaborate with other health care practitioners when a client’s treatment is beyond their scope of practice (e.g. diagnostic testing, psychotherapy/counseling).
